Remains of the old Almohad Wall
The few traces that have been preserved correspond to the wall of the Almohad period. The work was carried out in tabiya (mix of earth, lime, stone and water) and it is still possible to observe traces of needles or clamps that held the boards which served as molds for its construction. The preserved wall has different thicknesses depending on their location; in areas of difficult access such as cliffs it is less thick than those remains found in lower areas or in passing. The walled enclosure had three main gates: the Puerta de Jerez (west), the Puerta de Carmona (north) and Matrera Gate (southeast), which is the only survivor.
